Geodes are spherical rocks filled or lined with crystals. They can form in gas bubbles in igneous rock, through the cooling and solidification of magma or lava. Once the outer rock hardens, a slow feed of of minerals and hydrothermal solutions allows crystals to form inside the chamber, often over millions of years. The term ‘geode’ originated from a Greek term Geoides meaning "shape of the earth". The name was likely given because of their natural, round earth-like formations. Geodes can be found all around the world, but ours were located in Brazil. When a geode is dissected the stunning patterns of minerals inside are revealed.
